Senator talks education, property rights

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison spoke on education, transportation and property rights during a visit Saturday afternoon to an unincorporated area of Upshur County.

About 300 people turned out to see Hutchison, who is campaigning for the Republican nomination for governor against incumbent Rick Perry and Debra Medina in the March primary.

Eight Democrats and five Libertarians also are running for governor.

In addition to Hutchison’s speech, the event featured a forum for Upshur County candidates of all political parties to speak to the public.
