San Angelo, TX – In his more than four years as a U.S. congressman, no issue has touched the nerves and emotions of his constituents as much as the debate on health care reform, Mike Conaway said.
People he has talked to across his district are angry, and they are informed on the issue, he said.
San Angelo was no different.
Several hundred people filled the CJ Davidson Center on the Angelo State University campus Wednesday night in a town hall meeting on the health reform issue. A line quickly formed more than 25 people deep to ask questions or make statements.
“I have never seen a public policy issue where the folks with opinions are as informed,” Conaway said before the meeting. “This is the most in-depth understanding and knowledge on an issue I have come across. The main reason is it’s personal. When you start talking about health care, it is personal.”
